Lutheran school students in North County celebrated their schools and their faith during National Lutheran Schools Week (Jan. 28-Feb. 2, ). The theme of this year’s week was “Baptized for This Moment,” based on Acts 2:38-39.
Our Redeemer students enjoyed fun dress up days and took an online mission trip to Thailand, courtesy of Lutheran Hour Ministries. Each day, students from different grade levels took part in video conferences that introduced them to the culture, economy and children of Thailand. The program is designed to take children into the “mission field” to help them understand the importance of mission work throughout the world.
Grace Chapel students welcomed a furry friend during Pajama Day – Zeke the Comfort Dog, a K-9 ambassador for Lutheran Church Charities. They also tested their balloon balancing skills during “Minute to Win It” games.
Students at Lutheran North began the week with a special treat — popsicles, to remind them why “It’s Cool to be in a Lutheran School.” Students wore their favorite Crusader Colors on “Maroon and Gold Day” and honored Lutheran colleges by displaying the schools’ banners throughout the main hallway.
Atonement Lutheran and Salem Lutheran in Florissant and River Roads Lutheran in north St. Louis also celebrated the week. The schools are members of the St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA).
At Atonement students enjoyed dressing up differently each day for Way Back When Day, Jersey Day, PJ/Sweats Day, Eagles’ Spirit Day, and Dress Your Best Day. Special events included a parent-sponsored Book Fair, along with Grandparents’ Day – everyone’s favorite. Atonement also had a celebrity guest performance by American Idol contestant Curtis Finch who sang a number of Gospel songs and reminded everyone that all things are possible with God! Students also prepared and presented a special Black History Month program at a school-wide assembly.
