Lutheran North Hoop Teams Go 2-1 In Season-Opening Tournaments

Lutheran High School North Basketball Teams, Boys and Girls, did not play in tournament championship games but did win two out of three games in each of their tournament.

Two weeks ago the Lutheran North girls took the consolation title at the Orchard Farm Tournament. Last week the Lutheran North boys were unable to defend their title at the St. Charles West Warrior Classic and had to settle for third place.

LUTHERAN NORTH GIRLS opened the Orchard Farm Tournament with a 65-42 loss to eventual tournament runner up Union then rebounded with a 54-11 rout of College Prep of Madison (St. Louis) and a 46-44 win over Francis Howell North.

Renetha Dickson scored 39 points in three games which included 24 points on making eight three-point shots. Dickson had 10 assists and 17 steals. Jacobi Collins had 16 rebounds and Tationa Trice blocked sox shots.

LUTHERAN NORTH BOYS had a pair of close victories in the St. Charles West Warrior Classic, 68-66 over Francis Howell North in the first round and 48-46 over Kirkwood in the Consolation Final. Lutheran North hopes of a repeat title ended in a 59-52 overtime semifinal loss to eventual tournament runner up and host St. Charles West.

Isaiah Holman scored 46 points, a 15.3 average while Cameron Jackson made 32 points of which 27 came from nine made three-point shots.

HAZELWOOD EAST GIRLS TAKE CONSOLATION HONORS AT NERINX HALL — 2-0 VERSUS VISITATION — Hazelwood East rebounded from the first round loss last week at the Nerinx Hall Invitational with two wins and the consolation title. Westminster Christian Academy, who lost to Nerinx Hall in the championship game, defeated East, 65-47, in the first round. East rebounded with wins over Oakville, 46-41, and Visitation, 45-43, and the win over Visitation was the second as East won at home 44-39 on Nov. 27.

A day after the Nerinx Hall Invitational, Dec. 7, East, at home, routed former Suburban North Conference rival Normandy, 59-12.

At the Nerinx Hall Invitational Nakia Wilson scored 36 points of which half of the points (18) came courtesy of six made three-point shots and Wilson made eight of 11 free throws. Tiara Bramlett pulled down 38 rebounds, Norissia Daniels had eight assists and Destiny Williford had eight steals.

East played Suburban North rival McCluer Dec. 10 in the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament and this concludes Dec. 14.

NORTH TECH SEEDED FOUTH AT LUTHERAN-ST. CHARLES COUNTY — North Technical hopes to improve from last year’s seventh place finish at the Lutheran High-St. Charles County Nike Cougar Classic and is seeded fourth in the tournament to be played Dec. 13-15.  North Tech opens Dec. 13 with a 5 p.m. game against fifth-seeded Priory with the winner playing Dec. 14, 6:30, against top seed and defending tournament champion Elsberry or eighth-seeded Lift for Life Academy. The Classic concludes Dec. 15 with games at 3:30 (seventh place), 5 p.m. (consolation championship), 6:30 (third place) and 8:15 (championship game).

After taking the consolation title at Winfield last week North Tech lost at home to John Burroughs 50-42 and won at Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC, 60-39. North Tech hosted Carnahan Dec. 10.

Prior to Dec. 10 Ni’Sean Rigmaiden has scored 17.3 points per game while Kevin James has averaged 15.5 points per game and nearly 10 rebounds per game.

“We’re trying to figure out the pace for the kids,” said North Tech coach Don Boyce at the Winfield Tournament. “Offensively we need things to work.”

OUT OF AREA CONGRATS–RITENOUR HIGH GIRLS — For the first time in Ritenour High history the girls’ basketball team won a tournament, the Northwest-Cedar Hill Tournament two weeks ago. Seeded eighth Ritenour defeated top seeded and host Northwest 41-25, fifth-seeded and Suburban North rival Pattonville 41-37 and seventh-seeded Cape Girardeau Central 35-33 in overtime.
