One of North County’s crown jewels—Sioux Passage Park—is a perfect place to enjoy the splendid colors of fall while walking along the banks of the Missouri River. It’s also a great place to play disc golf, shoot baskets, play tennis, picnic, or ride horses (if you have your own horse). For equestrians, there are trails throughout the 212 acres and open riding is allowed along the river bank.
This past Sunday, when the temperatures were in the 70s and Cardinal Nation was anxiously awaiting the start of the sixth game of the National League Championship Series, some of Sioux Passage’s visitors included a lone fisherman and a few adventurous hikers who walked across sandbars in the drought-stricken river to get to Pelican Island. There were also many families walking their dogs, but the park still felt under-utilized. There were no children on the playgrounds and no one was using the shelters for a picnic.
Sioux Passage is part of the Missouri River Greenway and boaters have access to the river via a wide concrete ramp that spills into a large parking lot.
Whether you go there by boat, car, motorcycle or horse, why not spend some time during the remaining fall days to enjoy nature at its best at Sioux Passage Park.
