Senator Timothy Green Urges Medicare Recipients to Attend Local CLAIM Medicare Enrollment Event

State Senator Timothy Green, D-Spanish Lake, encourages all Medicare recipients attend the local Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) event, where trained counselors from CLAIM (Community Leaders Assisting the Insured of Missouri) will be available to help seniors choose the Medicare plan that best meets their financial and health care needs.

The CLAIM AEP event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the St. Louis County Library Florissant Valley Branch, 195 South New Florissant Rd., Florissant, Mo.

“Medicare is a vital government program that ensures our seniors receive they health care they need,” said Sen. Green. “However, the Medicare system can sometimes be complicated to navigate, especially now, with more choices available than ever before. CLAIM is a wonderful organization that helps seniors figure out the plan that’s best for them and answers any questions they may have. I strongly urge all Medicare beneficiaries in our area attend this AEP event.”

Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hold an Annual Open Enrollment Period, during which people on Medicare can make changes to prescription-drug plans and Medicare Advantage (privately owned medical) plans without penalty. The CMS recommends Medicare beneficiaries review all of the Medicare Part D and Part C plans available to them during this enrollment period. This year’s AEP runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.

CLAIM, a nonprofit organization contracted by the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration, holds public events throughout the state during the open enrollment period to help Medicare recipients review their plans and guide them through any changes. CLAIM has been the official State Health Insurance Assistance Program in Missouri since 1993.
