’08 Will Have the Most MSD Projects Ever in Florissant

Florissant will receive another storm sewer relief project funded by Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD.)

The design contract which consists of the preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of approximately 970 feet of 12-inch to 24-inch diameter storm sewers on Ridgelawn Count was recently awarded by the MSD Board of Trustees. The purpose of this project is to alleviate yard and street flooding.

There are 19 sanitary and storm sewer relief projects in either the planning, design, or construction stages scheduled for 2008. Mayor Robert Lowery has worked with representatives of MSD to bring more projects into the city every year. Lowery stated, “this year will have the most projects MSD has ever budgeted for Florissant.”

At a recent executive session meeting with the city council, Lowery said, “There are two ongoing major sanitary sewer relief projects with a combined engineering design and construction amount totaling over $8 million.”

The first of these projects, the Daniel Boone Trunk Sewer and Channel Replacement Project, is currently under construction. The construction bid amount totaled over $3 million, and is estimated to be completed in April 2008.

The second of these projects, which has been in the design phase in 2007, the Fountain/Anthony Lateral Sanitary Sewer Relief Project. This project’s construction budget is estimated at over $4 million and is expected to last approximately 18 months once awarded in the fall of 2008.

The Public Works Department is responsible for assuring the quality of storm and sanitary sewer relief projects through design and construction. For more information on these projects, call City Engineer Scott Smith at 314-839-7643.
