City Attorney John Hessel Named ‘Municipal Lawyer of the Year’

Florissant City Attorney John Hessel has been named as “St. Louis’ Best Municipal Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, one of the oldest and most respected peer review publications in the legal profession.

Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” This is the second time that John Hessel has received this recognition; he was also named Municipal Lawyer of the Year for 2011.

A well-respected partner and management committee member of Lewis Rice, John Hessel has been serving the St. Louis community for more than thirty years. He has served as city attorney for Florissant since 1991. He is also the city attorney for Kirkwood, and he assists in his firm’s representation of Crestwood and Wildwood. He has also served as special counsel for numerous municipalities in St. Louis County.

In 2008, he received the Citizen of the Year Award from the cities of Kirkwood and Des Peres and the Medal of Valor Award from Crusade Against Crime, honoring the brave role he played in the February 7, 2008 Kirkwood tragedy.

Lawyers honored as “Lawyers of the Year” are selected based on exhaustive peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers with thousands of leading lawyers each year. Receiving this designation reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity.

“We are very proud of John for this distinguish honor and congratulate him on a job well done,” stated Mayor Schneider.
