Plans to Watch Sports Over Holiday Thwarted

By Randy Gardner

Over the Labor Day weekend, you are supposed to do a couple of things. One of them is to have some barbecue and the other is to watch sporting events. I thought with the rain over the weekend I would be able to sit down and watch sports all weekend.

That was a joke, I spent all weekend fixing things around the house including painting and fixing the sink and yes developing new projects for my job. I got to sit and watch about 30 minutes of total television including the Rams on Thursday night and the Nascar race on Sunday Night.

I only got to see the end of both events but they were fantastic. Lets start off with the Rams, they looked great. How much stock can we put in these games though.

Remember last year, the team was 4-0 in the preseason. I really think and you can put this away till the end of the season that the team will go 10-6.

Rams and Mizzou in New Roles

I know every year I predict about the same record but I think the difference maker is Jeff Fisher. You just watch him on the sidelines and watch his demeanor and watch how he handles himself. You can just see that the players respect him fully. The opener is next week and I am so curious to see how Jeff pulls this team together or will it all fall apart like years in the past. Remember 10-6.

How about those Mizzou Tigers in their new spot in the SEC, 62-4 winners over one of those corner state schools Like Gary Pinkel said though lets keep this in perspective, it was Southeastern Louisiana.

Next week they will be playing Georgia, a real SEC team,  at home and this will be much more of a true test for this team. I think that they will be really good this year also. I love looking down their schedule and seeing all of these new teams that they will be playing, teams that they have not  played against very often, if ever. It’s  great for the players and for the fans. It’s something different.

Cardinals Manage to Hang in There

How about those Cardinals, do they ever give up? They are within reach of the playoffs with the 2nd wildcard spot and maybe able to get to the first wildcard spot. As we talk about every year, this all comes down to pitching and clutch hitting by not only the stars on this team but the everyday joes.

It would be such a shame for this team to win the World Series last year and not even make the playoffs this year. More than that, we have something to prove as a RedBird community to Albert Pujols that we can do it without him. Won’t this have those naysayers that said to keep Pujols talking about how we couldn’t make it without him. I will speculate  that they will go in as the 2nd wildcard team and get knocked out in second round, I hope I am wrong.
