Big Track Fire at NASCAR Brings Up New Safety Issues

by Randy Gardner

As many people, I am a huge NASCAR fan and was greatly disappointed when the Daytona 500 was postponed on Sunday because of rain. The races leading up to Sunday, which were the truck race and the Nationwide race, were filled with explosive crashes for a number of cars.

No greater explosion though than that of Montoya in the 500 which eventually ran on Monday night. After leaving the pits and trying to catch up to the pack, his car broke and he slammed the jet drier that is hooked to a truck and exploded into flames.

I have watched NASCAR since I was little and have never seen anything like this. The engine exploded into flames with the driver of the truck being taken out while the truck was on fire. Then 200 gallons of jet fuel piled onto the racing surface.

After two hours of cleanup that seemed like a lifetime, the race resumed and Matt Kenseth won.

My question is after seeing this, is why doesn’t the guy driving the truck with 200 gallons of jet fuel have a fire suit on and a helmet?. Doesn’t this just make sense?.

I bet the procedures will change next week. It was really weird to watch a race though on a Monday night. I am curious to see the TV ratings. They are usually high for Monday Night Football, so why not Monday night racing, maybe we are onto something.

Rams Playing in London Still as Issue

Some Rams fans are still reeling about the team playing one preseason game for the next three years in London? What is going on here? Will the fans still have to pay full price for season packages or will the ticket include airfare and accommodations to London for season ticket holders? Now we have something.

The more and more I look at this whole situation is seems to be coming clear that the Rams could be moving in 3 years or is Stan Kroenke just using his business savvy to leverage a deal as many look at this as the team might go.

Kroenke, also owns part of the Arsenal  soccer team in London. Just atart  putting on the pieces together? How about that,  he owns the Rams, a soccer franchise, hockey, and basketball teams. Heck, Must be nice. The only team that I own is on the Nintendo WII, when I play with my 7 year old in football. That’s enough for me though. Family is what life is all about.

That brings me to my final thought, everyone always says that they wish they could win the lottery. Even I do. Is that what life is all about though. My kids have no concept of what I do for a living. They love me for me and nothing else. If you watch all of these shows about lottery winners, they all end up broke and unhappy. Money can’t buy happiness.

Love, which is free can give you happiness, so remember when you are out there trying to make a mark on this world. All your family really wants is your time, attention, and love. For all of you parents that don’t go to your kids games because you don’t want to or you sit and read a book or play on your phone, that is a shame. Kids notice that and you can never get that time back from them. Make some time for your family, you will never regret that.
