Florissant Youth Receives a Red Cross Lifesaver Award

The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter presented Lifesaver Awards to six residents and the National Certificate of Merit to two residents from the St. Louis metropolitan area. Thirteen-year-old Kimberly Boyd saved her father’s life. Early one morning, Larry Boyd suffered an asthma attack and called out to Kimberly for help. Shortly after this plea, he collapsed on the floor. Kimberly immediately called 911 and began performing CPR, repeating the cycles for nearly five minutes before the paramedics arrived to continue care.

Overland Police Officers Brian Foster and James Kalinich were dispatched to the scene of a one-car accident. When they arrived, they saw a man lying on the ground, next to his car. After assessing the victim’s condition, the officers started CPR. Shortly after beginning CPR, the officers saw flames coming from the wreckage and moved the victim to a safer location. Once relocated, the officers resumed CPR until paramedics from the Community Fire Protection District arrived.
