Lloyd Newman, a resident of The Pillars of North County, received a Senate Resolution from State Sen. Timothy Green on July 19, recognizing Newman as an exemplary citizen in his community. The local artist is back painting once again as his health condition has improved remarkably.

The owners, staff and residents of the Pillars of North County Health & Rehabilitation Center, 13700 Old Halls Ferry Road, honored Newman on the day Senator Green brought him his proclamation.

Newman retired around 1996 from his Baden Donuts shop due to health concerns. In September 2002, he moved into The Pillars, where he realized that he was depressed, his health was poor, and that he just didn’t want to do anything.

Following hospitalization and deteriorating health early in 2006, the Pillars Social Services director Linda Sills encouraged Newman to renew his interest in painting. Newman now looks forward to each day painting and socializing. Painting has help improve his mental, emotional and physical health and well-being His now positive outlook on life has been an inspiration to the staff, residents and visitors to The Pillars.

The members of the Missouri Senate, Ninety-fourth General Assembly, in order to recognize the achievements of Lloyd Newman, presented him with Senate Resolution No. 5943C.01 for his outstanding citizenship.

” We’re inspired and honored with your accomplishments and wish you continued success with your artwork,” John Rothert, one of the co-owners of The Pillars told Mr. Newman. Senator Green said when he was contacted about Mr. Newman’s accomplishments, he decided to make it to the Missouri Senate and have the resolution drafted to honor him. Mr. Newman actually received two plaques, one for his room an another for a prominent place at The Pillars.

One of Mr. Newman’s most recent paintings is the likeness of St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols and was a gift to another Pillars resident who was able to return to living in the community.
