Prep Sports Practices Begin Monday, MSHSAA Fall Season Opens Aug. 20

Missouri State High School Activities Association member high schools open pre-season practices for the 2007 fall season Monday, Aug. 6.

Two weeks later, Aug. 20, the fall sports season opens in Girls Golf, Girls Tennis and Fall Softball. Another week later, Aug. 27, Boys Soccer, Boys Swimming & Diving, Cross Country and Girls Volleyball open their seasons while the 2007 Football season opens Thursday, Aug. 30.

Fall sports season lasts through Nov. 24 when the odd-numbered Football classes crown their state champion at the Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis. The even-numbered Football classes will play their championship games on Nov. 23.

Girls Golf is first to crown state champions and that will be done Oct. 15-16 at two Springfield area Golf Courses. Springfield will also host Girls State tennis with team titles to be decided Oct. 18 while the singles and doubles titles to be decided Oct. 20. Meanwhile in Columbia, Mo., also on Oct. 20, Softball championships will be decided.

Nov. 3 will be the date for state championships to be awarded for Cross Country, in Jefferson City, and Girls Volleyball, in Western Missouri.

Two Saturdays in the middle of November two St. Louis area sites will host state championships in two sports. Boys Swimming & Diving will crown state champions on Nov. 10 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Boys Soccer championships will be decided on Nov. 10, for Classes One and Two, and Nov. 17, for Class Three, at the Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton.

Date and site for the Girls Field Hockey championship, not sanctioned by MSHSAA, is not decided except it will be in the St. Louis area.

Basketball and Wrestling begin pre-season practices Oct. 29 and open the 2007-08 season on Nov. 19. Girls Swimming & Diving begins pre-season practices Nov. 12 and their season begins Dec. 3.

Wrestling and Girls Swimming & Diving will crown state champions on Feb. 16, 2008. State Wrestling will be held at the University of Missouri-Columbia’s Mizzou Arena. Girls State Swimming & Diving will be held at the St. Peters’ Rec-Plex.

Basketball will be crowned in two weekends in March at Mizzou Arena.

Classes Four and Five will crown their state champions on March 8, 2008 while Classes One, Two and Three will decide their state champions on March 14-15, 2008. The winter season ends March 15, 2008.

Club Ice Hockey, not sanctioned by MSHSAA or their member schools will start the season in early November and end with championships late February or early March, 2008.

Spring Sports practices begin Feb. 25, 2008 and open interscholastic play March 17, 2008. Boys Water Polo begins practices Feb. 18, 2008, and open competition March 10, 2008.

Spring Sports ends before the last day of school except for teams and athletes competing for MSHSAA State championships. Dates and sites for State Spring Championships include: Boys Golf, May 13, 2008, at four Springfield area courses; Track and Field, May 17, 2008 (Classes One-Two), May 24, 2008 (Classes Three-Four), Lincoln University, Jefferson City; Boys Tennis, May 22, 2008 (team), May 26, 2008 (singles-doubles), Springfield; Baseball May 29, 2008 (Classes One-Two), May 31, 2008 (Classes Three-Four), Columbia or Springfield; Girls Soccer, May 31, 2008, AB Center.
