Elvis Tribute Show in Hazelwood Draws Crowd, International Guests

Two international guests were among the nearly 250 people who attended the Elvis Tribute Show performed by the Tom Christopher Band as part of Hazelwood’s Summer Concert Series.  One came from Athens, Greece, and the other arrived from Frankfurt, Germany.  Both of them made a rendezvous in Hazelwood to see their friend, Tom Christopher, put on an electrifying Tribute Show that sets him apart as one the best Elvis impersonators.

Jenny Adam of Athens, Greece, has been one of Tom’s friends for about a year and a half.  “She recently came to America with the intention of seeing his show Saturday night in Hazelwood during her trip,” said Tim Davidson, communications coordinator, City of Hazelwood.  Jenny attended the concert with Tim and Kym Welshan.

The other visitor, Anna Lisa Mannheimer of Frankfurt, Germany, was eager to see Tom’s performance and came early to get a front row seat.  It worked to her advantage because he introduced her as a close friend during the concert and came down to give her one of his scarves, as well as a hug and kiss. He then dedicated a song to her, “In the Ghetto,” which was one of her favorites.

“To have people coming in from different parts of the world to watch a band we chose for this year’s Hazelwood Summer Concert Series indicates that we’re offering our residents quality entertainment at a great value,” said Pam Reynolds, facility manager, Hazelwood Community Center.  “Where else can you take a family, or even a date, and enjoy a full concert under the stars for free.  It’s the best deal in town.”

Reynolds points out that the Tom Christopher Band was initially supposed to perform under the new gazebo in Truman Park.  But with the strong storms that came through the area Saturday morning and the forecast of more rain by The Weather Channel, a decision was made to move the event inside to prevent the equipment from getting ruined and to keep people safe from the elements.  Plans are to host the next three band performances at Truman Park, weather permitting.

The City of Hazelwood is the latest to join the ranks of local municipalities that offer free summer concerts for residents.  Bands chosen for this year’s schedule offer a variety of music genres to satisfy everyone’s tastes.  The remaining three summer concerts will be performed by the following bands:

July 16- Bob Kuban Band

July 30- KLOSE-NUFF – Classic Hits

Aug. 3 -The Chaz45 Band – R&B, Classic Rock
