Tony Glavin Coaching The St. Louis Lions, Have Big Game Sunday

BY RANDY GARDNER

Yesterday, I had a chance to sit down and talk with one of my childhood heroes, Tony Glavin from the St. Louis Steamer days. I remember watching, as many of you probably do also, as Tony (the pocket rocket) would electrify the sold out crowds at the old Checkerdome.

It was such a treat to be able to go and experience those games. The tickets were as hard to come by then as Super Bowl tickets are now. As I talked to him about his new endeavor, the St. Louis Lions, an amateur outdoor team that is doing quit well right now with a 3-0 record.

Tony is the head coach of this team, which is basically a pro team but keeps its amateur status so that players don’t hurt their college eligibility.

The Lions, if they win on Sunday, will be qualified for the US Open Cup and will play against teams that are in the MLS. This will be quit a feat for Tony and his team.

The game will be on Sunday at the Tony Glavin Soccer Complex. You can find out more information on their website at www.stllions.com. The game will be at 5 pm and if you want to go and be a part of this huge game for the franchise, I have 10 sets of tickets to give away for the first 10 people who email me at randynews20@charter.net.

The game is on this Sunday, so act fast. Back to Tony though, he keeps himself in great shape and was telling me that he gets out there and still plays with the guys. He said he tries to run about five miles a day still. Not bad, huh?

A Viewpoint on Negativity———–

This is a little off the beaten path of sports but it does still pertain to many situations in sports too. How sick do you get of people who think they know everything about everything and are the first to criticize a situation or event and they don’t even know the background or all of the facts?

These kinds of people are the first to throw a stone and try to stir something up but the last ones with half of sense to understand what someone is trying to do. They really make me mad the more I think about it

That is why we have what we have today because of all of the negative thinking in this world. How can our kids grow up to be successful and be positive when there are pinheads out there that constantly invoke negativity about positive things.

Think about this; we all know someone like this and it has to stop. Be knowledgeable, ask questions and understand before you shoot your trap off.

Once again, don’t forget, email me at randynews20@charter.net for the free Tony Glavin ticket sets for the St. Louis Lions Home Soccer Game on Sunday. I only have 10 sets so get on it.
