MSHSAA To Have New Football Playoff Format, 9-Game Schedule For 2012-13

(Posted April 12, 2011)
The Missouri State High School Activities Association Announced that starting in the fall of 2012 a new football playoff format will take place.
According to a MSHSAA report the Associations Board of Directors unanimously votes for the new format which reduces each school’s maximum schedule from 10 games to nine. Week 10 will start district play, eight teams per district with teams seeded by way of points — wins, losses, etc. — instead of round-robin play that started in 1988 and will end in 2011, this fall.
The district championship will take place the third week of districts and the winners will advance to the state quarterfinals.
There will be four districts in Class Six, eight districts in each of Classes One-Five and two in Eight-Man. Schools will be grouped in Classes One-Four and Class Six by basis of geographical location while Class Five and Eight-Man will be based on the number of teams in the region. If necessary the top two seeded teams in Class Five and Eight-Man could have byes in the district tournament.
