Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant Rivals Play Valley of Flowers Baseball

Suburban North Conference rivals inside the Hazelwood School District and the Ferguson-Florissant School District will take part this weekend in baseball games at Koch Park as part of the Valley of Flowers festivities.
Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West will open the weekend at Koch Park Thursday with a 4 p.m. games. Friday McCluer North and McCluer High will play at Koch Park at 7 p.m. Saturday Archdiocesan Athletic Association rivals Trinity Catholic and Bishop DuBourg play a 2 p.m. game at Koch Park.

Also Thursday at 4 p.m. McCluer North hosts Pattonville in a game that may have first place in the Suburban North on the line.
Hazelwood Central, prior to April 26, is 9-5 overall while Hazelwood West, prior to April 28, is 9-7 overall. Both are 6-2 in the Suburban North with conference games before they meet. Hazelwood Central was to play Ritenour on April 26 and Pattonville on May 1. Hazelwood West was to play Ritenour on May 1 and was to play two non-conference games, Warrenton on April 28 and Fort Zumwalt South on May 2.

Both teams have rainouts to make up. Hazelwood West was to make up a game against Hazelwood East and could make that up in a doubleheader at West on May 8. Hazelwood Central has to make up a game with McCluer North and that could be in a doubleheader at McCluer North on May 8. On April 10 West beat Central, 6-2.

McCluer North, prior to April 30, is 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the Suburban North. McCluer North, who was to play Hazelwood East on April 30, won the Jefferson City Tournament, April 6-7 and, if scheduling permits, was to make up a rainout against defending Class Four State Champion Vianney.
McCluer, prior to April 30, is 1-6 in the Suburban North and 2-14 overall, not including the season-opener, March 19 against Gateway Tech.

McCluer was to play former Suburban North rival Normandy, now a member of the Suburban East Conference, April 30, and visits Riverview Gardens Thursday in a 4 p.m. Suburban North game, Friday’s game at Koch Park is the second meeting between McCluer North and McCluer in four days. The two teams met May 1 at McCluer.

Trinity Catholic, prior to April 30, is 1-4 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association and 6-12 overall. Trinity was second to Orchard Farm in the Lutheran North Tournament and was to play Whitfield April 30, St. Mary’s May 1 and Duchesne May 2 and is scheduled to host Lutheran-St. Charles County Friday at 4:15.

Pattonville, prior to the May 1 game against Hazelwood Central, is 7-1 in the Suburban North and 11-3 overall. Pattonville has two losses to CBC, is 1-1 against Hazelwood West and won at home over McCluer North, 4-2 on April 10.
