Athletes from Hazelwood School District advancing in cross country, football

After weekend competition to advance to state and sectionals, student athletes from the Hazelwood School District are moving ahead in their sport.

Cross country runners from Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West high schools are going to the Missouri State High School Activities Association Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 6 in Jefferson City.

William Mitchell, a senior from Hazelwood Central, finished 26th out of the top 30 in sectionals with a time of 17:19:53. Anthony Riggs, a junior from Hazelwood West, finished 21st in the meet with a time of 17:12.

In football, the Hawks of Hazelwood Central are undefeated conference champions with a record of 10-0. As the Class 6, District 4 winners, the team will advance to sectionals to face Marquette. The game is November 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Hazelwood Central High School.

The Spartans of Hazelwood East High School are Class 5, District 3 champions in football, with a record of 5-5. The sectional playoff game is Monday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. against Chaminade. The game will be played at Ritenour High School.
