Hazelwood Police Participate in ‘Ornaments for Officers’ Fundraiser

OrnamentsforOfficers

The Hazelwood Police Department has joined efforts to help launch a new fundraising program for The Backstoppers called “Ornaments for Officers,” and encourages North County residents to get involved.  This program allows people and organizations to donate new or slightly used ornaments for the purpose of helping the families of police, fire and EMS officers who have been killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.

The organizer of this new fundraiser for The Backstoppers is Rick Ruderer, owner of Richard Roberts Jewelry.  Some of the businesses that have already donated ornaments include Tiffany, Kirkwood Florist, The Designing Block, Finches, Ivey-Selkirks and Second Sitting Consignments.

Through Nov. 16, individuals, organizations and businesses can drop off their new and slightly used holiday ornaments to the “Ornaments for Officers” headquarters, located at the Hazelwood Police Department, located inside City Hall at 415 Elm Grove Lane, or at “Ornaments for Officers” headquarters, 10424 Manchester Rd. in Kirkwood.

Any groups interested in organizing an ornament collection drive at school, work or church for Backstoppers can contact Ornaments for Officers founder Rick Ruderer at (314) 681-0401.  He can also be reached by e-mail at ornamentsforofficers@yahoo.com. The goal is to raise $20,000 this year and make it an annual event. Donations are tax deductible.

The donated ornaments will be displayed on trees at participating retailers between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and sold for $3 each.  Proceeds will benefit The Backstoppers. For a complete list of participating retailers, go to www.ornamentsforofficers.com.
