Hazelwood West Middle School sixth-grader Liam Woolen, left, receives congratulations from Crystal Reiter, his former elementary school principal, for his scores on last year’s MAP test. Reiter handed out certificates to her former fifth-grade students for scoring advanced or proficient in communication arts and/or math.

Crystal Reiter, the principal at Garrett Elementary School, and fifth-grade teacher Jolie Pugh, visited the middle school to give some of their former students Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) awards for their performance last year on the state test. Garrett is one of the elementary feeder schools for Hazelwood West Middle School.

Reiter and Pugh gave many former fifth grade students awards for scoring advanced and proficient in math and/or communication arts. Reiter handed out the awards during the sixth grade lunch period.

“We gave out principal’s awards at Garrett and we didn’t want to leave out our fifth graders, who are now here at West Middle,” Reiter said of their visit. “These awards are a reason to put forth your best effort on the test next year.”
