Just Give the Ball to Sam Bradford Starting Saturday vs. Vikings

BY RANDY GARDNER

We are only days away from seeing the Rams kick off their preseason at the Dome. Saturday night, it’s against the Minnesota Vikings and maybe Brett Favre. As I talk to people around town, the reviews are totally mixed on whether or not Sam Bradford should just be given the starting spot right away.

I am on the side of the folks that say play him even if he is in two arm casts and a back brace. We can’t get any worse than we have been in the past several years. The only way to get this guy some in the line of fire action is to play him. Win or lose, it doesn’t matter.

The players are saying that Bradford is feeling much more comfortable in the huddle and is taking charge of everything.  That’s what they need.

As I said in my last column, the fans I think will stand for some losing as long as the franchise is trying to make some positive changes. We will see though over the next few months if the fans can handle the  growing pains.

Who knows, Bradford might be the next Kurt Warner. I am trying to get in contact with Kurt Warner to get his thought on a rookie QB getting 50 million dollars guaranteed. What about Kurt Warner being picked on Dancing with the Stars? This should be really cool. Football players have done well on the show, but Kurt will be the first former QB to hit the dance floor.

This brings up a the whole controversy of players in any league getting paid way to much money before they even play a down or make a hit.  Does it take away from the veterans who have played in the league for years and have earned it?

Look at a player who has put up Pro Bowl numbers for years and doesn’t sniff a contact that is anywhere close to $50 million guaranteed. This takes it back to the pay for play scale with some guaranteed money if the player gets hurt. Also, if a player plays good they want more money, but what about a player that plays poorly, should they give some of the money back to the ownership? Isn’t this only fair? It seems really one sided to me.

Edmunds Makes the Rounds thru NL Central

It is really weird to see Jim Edmunds in a Reds uniform. He went 0 for 4 in his first appearance Monday night against the Cards. I still see the guy in  Cardinal red. At least with the Cubs and Brewers he wasn’t wearing red.

I am looking forward to taking my 6-year-old to his first Cards game in September. Of course, we are sitting in the nose bleed seats but I am hoping that he will enjoy the experience.

I hear so many fathers talk about their dads taking them to the ball game as a kid. I am hoping that this will be a day to always remember for my child. Of course in September, it might still be 95 degrees or their could be cool.  Either way, it’s about the overpriced experience of spending $20 on a  two hot dogs and a soda— more than we even paid for the tickets.
