Brian Simmons Named Football Coach at Hazelwood East High

The Hazelwood School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Brian Simmons as the new head football coach of Hazelwood East High School. Simmons was the head coach and defensive coordinator at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School in St. Louis.  He replaces Mike Jones who left the position at the end of the 2009 season.

Simmons’  coaching experience began in 1989 when he was the football coach for Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club. He has held coaching positions at Pattonville High School, Hazelwood Central High School and Washington University in St. Louis. He has experience in women’s athletics, as well as sponsoring various clubs and organizations.

He has helped lead teams to numerous district and regional conference championships. In 2009, Cardinal Ritter Prep was named 3A District Champs and AAA Conference Champs.

Simmons has influenced football players such Marvin McNutt, All-American, University of Iowa 2006, Hazelwood Central High graduate; Kenny Sims, All-American, University of Tulsa 2005, Hazelwood Central High graduate; and Tyrone Roberson, All-American, University of Missouri 2004, among many others.

Honors include AAA Conference Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009; 2008 St. Louis American Coach of the Year. He is a graduate of Bishop DuBourg High School. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Fontbonne University, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Missouri Valley College.
