Hazelwood Central Student is Tech Prep Student of the Year

Crystal Crawford, a senior at Hazelwood Central High School, was named Tech Prep Student of the Year from South Technical High School. Crawford is completing a two-year program in broadcast captioning and court reporting at South Technical. Each year, the honor is presented to one student from the school.

At a ceremony held by Special School District of St. Louis County, Crawford was recognized by the SSD Board of Education.

Crawford’s career plans include studying information reporting technology and earning an associate degree from St. Louis Community College. She is in the Missouri A+ Schools Program at Hazelwood Central High, and is a member of Key Club. At South Technical, she is a member of the Missouri Court Reporters Association and Skills USA.

She is an honor roll student at both high schools, and has earned various awards. She has conducted 260 hours of community service in roles such as academic tutoring at Jury Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District, volunteering at God’s Small World Day Care, Trinity Mount Carmel Baptist Church and West Side Church. She is also involved in the St. Louis County Youth Council of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
