Coach Scott Linehan gave his closing press conference on Tuesday for the season and it was a good one in my mind. This guy came out and laid it all on the line in terms of the season. The quote that struck me as the best one was that someone asked him to sum up his 8-8 season. His reply was “Half the games we were better, the other half we weren’t”
Now that’s a quote. I am happy for the team and Coach Linehan as they finished at .500. On Saturday night the team was taken out of the playoffs by a team that doesn’t, in my opinion doesn’t belong in the playoffs, the NY Giants. Tiki Barber had a career day against Washington but the Rams shouldn’t be relying on other teams to get us in the playoffs.
It just has to hurt as the team sat and watched their playoff hopes slip away and they couldn’t do anything about it, especially when they seem to be on a roll and would be a tough playoff team.
The Rams ended the season with a big win against Minnesota which sets the mood for the off season as a positive one for the team. Hopefully we will see a few changes next year, ones that will be positive for the spots (think defense) that hurt us this year.
BRINGING BACK THE BLUES FANS —
On Saturday night, I had a chance to see the Blues for the first time under their new head coach and man was it a treat. To bad the building was only about full. The crowd was into the game and the place was rocking. I really think this change was a positive for the franchise as they just looked like they were giving a much better effort than earlier in the season.
If I was a betting man, I would say that by the end of January the Blues will be close to.500 and will make the playoffs this year with a late run. Let’s just keep getting the people back into the stands to support this team. The organization did its job with changing personnel; now let’s support them 100%.
HOW ‘BOUT THOSE IDAHO GUYS —
Even if you aren’t the biggest college football fan in the world, you couldn’t help staying glued to the Fiesta Bowl as Boise State played Oklahoma. As I sat to watch, I figured that I would watch about a quarter to see how bad it would be, but to my surprise the Cinderella team, Boise Sate scored 14 quick points.
It went back and forth to the end with Boise State scoring on the last play of the game with the old hook and ladder. Then in overtime they scored on the statue of liberty play on a 2-point conversion. How cool the whole scene was for everyone. My wife thought I had lost my mind as I was yelling at the TV at 12:15 a.m. You know how I love those underdogs, that is what makes sports what they are.
This game begs the question, should there be a playoff system in the BCS and I say “heck yeh.” The way it is now is a bunch of crap. This is the only major sport that has a system like the BCS.. Games like last night show that there deserves to be a playoff system for the underdogs. If you have made it through the week, the big bowl game is on Monday night, Ohio Sate and Florida. I say Ohio Sate by 10. Have a happy and safe New Year.
