Saint Louis County Pet Adoption

Center Announces New Charitable Foundation

The Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center is excited to announce the launch of a new charitable foundation in support of the shelter. Friends of the St. Louis County Animal Shelter Foundation will now serve as the official nonprofit partner of the Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center.

The foundation, with a mission of “providing animal shelter support by bridging

the gap between public funds and the necessary resources needed to care for,

protect, and enhance the lives of animals who arrive at the County’s Animal Care

and Control and Pet Adoption Center in need of assistance,” will play a crucial role

in supporting shelter operations.

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce this new partnership and are very

grateful for the support.”, said Director of Public Health and Special Advisor to the

foundation, Dr. Kanika Cunningham. “Together, we will continue to ensure high

quality care for all animals in the shelter and continue to raise public awareness

about the animal welfare crisis affecting our community.”

As the foundation’s first project, the Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center will

host the first “Be a Friend; Save a Life, Help Another” adoption event this

weekend.

“As one of the first volunteers after County took over the shelter, I’ve personally

seen how long stays in the shelter can have a negative impact on our pets,” said

Sara Foster, President of the Foundation. “Our goal with this event is to create

excitement and interest in our wonderful pets and find loving homes for all of our

friends, especially those who have been here the longest or who simply get

overlooked in a crowded shelter, all while supporting pets and pet owners in need

aound the community.”

D uring the event, happening Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 at the Pet

Adoption Center in Olivette, board members of the Friends of the St. Louis County

Animal Shelter Foundation will be onsite to sponsor the adoption fees of 100 pets.

Adopters are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food to stock the shelter’s

community pet food pantry or make a monetary donation to the foundation. By

adopting and donating, community members truly can save one pet’s life while

helping another in need.
