Seniors Bid Auld Lang Syne to New Year’s

Eve Party at Florissant  Civic Center

        By Bob Lindsey

An always festive crowd of seniors popped  the bubbly and sang farewell to 2023, 12 hours before the end of the actual year at the James Eagan Center.  It’s been that way for many years as Florissant seniors and their friends celebrated New Year’s at the daytime Florissant Senior New Year’s Eve Party from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m..

This was the last New Year’s  Eve Party that will celebrated in that location, but it’s not the end of the  event.  Next year the party will be held at the JFK Center on Howdershell Rd. The St. Charles Concert Band, a fixture at the party for the past several years, will be back and, hopefully, many of the same folks who were there on Dec. 31 will be back again next year.

These were some of the scenes at this year’s party, which is a highlight of the year for the Florissant Senior Commission and office staff who work year-round this party better each year.  City Council members volunteer as bartenders and servers. Tornatore’s Catering provided the lunch served at the tables by additional volunteers. About 40 local businesses donated  gifts and attendance prizes.
