58th Walk Through History Plaque Honors Frank and JoAnn Schuette

Family and friends gathered in front of 1080 rue St. Francois on Wednesday, July 26 to unveil the 58th Walk Through History plaque in honor of the late Frank and JoAnn Schuette. The plaque dedication took place before the start of the third Wednesday Night Out event.     Frank and JoAnn Schuette both had careers many would have been more than happy to have. Frank worked at McDonnell Douglas and JoAnn worked at Southwestern Bell, but both felt that they wanted to do more for their small net Florissant community they lived in.

So, they opened Mid Town Dry Cleaners where their slogan was “Don’t frown call Mid-Town”. Mid-Town first location was at 745 St. Francois St. in the heart of Old Town Florissant. As the population grew in Florissant, they knew their business needed to grow with it. They purchased a larger/centrally located building at 1080 St. Francois St and continued their Dry Cleaners for over 30 years before retiring.

Frank and JoAnn descendants are also lifelong citizens of Florissant dating back to the infancy of the town. The Schuette family farm was what is known as Paddock Hills. Frank’s mother was a Henke and this family dates to Florissant early heritage. JoAnn’s maiden name is Ebbesmeyer and her mother was a Burcke.

Frank and JoAnn only moving twice but staying in the boundaries of Old Town and within the sound of Sacred Heart Church bells.

They both were very active in their community, church and civic organizations. These are just a few of the many organizations and volunteering opportunity they shared as a married couple; founding members of the Florissant VFW post 4105 and the Auxiliary, (Frank served two years in the Army artillery and 18 months overseas in the South Pacific and Korea), Members of Florissant Chamber Of Commerce, Old Town Business Association, Florissant Rotary Club, Florissant Optimist Club, Florissant Sportsman’s Club, American Legion post 444, Old Town Partners and life time parishioners of Sacred Heart .

The next plaque dedication will be on Wednesday, August 23 at 5:30 p.m. in front of 250 rue St. Francois in honor of the late John “Jack” Behlmann before the start of the fourth Wednesday Night Out festivities.
