Dining Divas May Outing

The Dining Divas Celebrate a Future

Diva at Chesterfield’s Firefly Grill

I have said it before, and now I am saying it again. It can be difficult for a group of our size to get reservations at restaurants. It is a different world now, and many places do not take reservations, and those that do prefer to not reserve larger parties. So, the Dining Divas were thrilled that Firefly Grill in Chesterfield not only gave us a reservation; they gave us a room.

The Helpful Diva reached out and shared with the manager our desire to not only try out the restaurant but to also host a surprise baby shower for the Pregnant Diva. “Certainly,” they told her. When she asked if we could bring a cake, “Definitely.” And then when she requested to come in early to decorate, “Come on in.” In fact, when the Decorating Divas arrived, a few of the staff offered to help us set up and were so accommodating.

Typically, we choose a Mexican restaurant in May. Because we have wanted to try Firefly Grill for a while, the group happily changed tradition when I told them Firefly was available to us for May. And it was the perfect cover for the surprise shower.

Aside from the Traveling Diva, the entire group made it to our celebration of the baby-to-be. The Pregnant Diva was shocked that the future father did not spill the surprise as she says he can never keep a secret, but he did this time.

After we ordered our meals from our attentive and adorable server, we all oo’d and ahh’d as the Mommy Diva opened the cutest girly gifts. We definitely have a future Diva to look forward to meeting.

The hand-breaded Chicken Strip appetizer, which is the only way to go according to the Selective Diva, was served with Sriracha aioli and hot honey, and was so delicious. The Sweet and Tangy Salad, with figs, goat cheese, candied walnuts, champagne dressing, and topped with grilled salmon was worthy of a celebration. The Firefly Wings, the Roasted Brussel Sprouts, and the Wedge Salad, were also popular this night.

Sometimes a name does not fit. The Chopped Cheese sandwich has to have a story behind it, but we don’t know what that story might be. “Chopped cheese” would probably be a cheese sandwich, or so we thought. Had the Particular Diva not read the description, she may have passed it up. It was a braised short rib sandwich with caramelized onions and topped with the house made pimento cheese dip served on grilled sourdough bread. A name change like “You Just Need to Try This” sandwich would be more appropriate.

The Plain Jane Smash Burger was another good option as was the Firefly Smash Burger; however, the Critical Diva thought it was average.   As with most of the meals, the Chicken Club was not only delicious but enough for more than one meal.

Waiting on a large party can be difficult, and our waitress did her best. The Jealous Divas didn’t get quite the attention the Showering Divas did. She impressed one Diva so much that the Diva called her husband to say she’d just met their future daughter in law. Aside from a nice tip, we also offered her a piece of the fabulous, homemade chocolate cake beautifully decorated with butter cream rosettes. She declined as she prefers salty over sweet. For the Sweet-Addicted Divas, aside from showering the new mama with attention and gifts, the cake was the highlight of the evening.

Moreover, it was definitely a night to highlight. A great celebration, wonderful conversations, and anticipation of the little bundle of joy coming in July.

As I left the restaurant and looked up, I thought what a perfect ending to a lovely evening. Beautiful, bright array of colors painted the sky, and it made me think. Lady Gaga may sing about the Arizona sky, but this spring night in St. Louis was worthy of its own lyrics.
