STLCC-Florissant Valley Hosts Project Lead the Way Compeition

Project Lead the Way Competition Feb. 24

The engineering and technology department at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley will host the Greater St. Louis Project Lead the Way Competition on Feb 24.

The competition, which uses the Project Lead the Way curriculum, will start at 8:15 a.m. in the gymnasium on the Florissant Valley campus, 3400 Pershall Road.

Upon arrival, teams of area high school students will receive an engineering problem and must create, design and build a solution during the morning. After lunch, they will demonstrate their solution.

This year’s challenge is the Windy 500. Students will work in teams of five and receive an unknown box of supplies. They must develop three concept vehicles and build one of them for the final competition. Students will be judged on teamwork, design and overall performance.

Nearly 175 students from 22 area high schools will compete. The competition is open to any PLTW school in the St. Louis/Eastern Missouri area. Engineering professionals will serve as mentors and judges for the competition and give awards to the best overall team, as well as separate awards in different categories.

Corporate sponsors for the competition include Brinkmann Constructors, Capital Innovators, EFK Moen, HOK, the Missouri Department of Transportation, and TWM Inc.
