Florissant Valley Chamber of Commerce Supports Tobacco Tax, 2 Proposition on Nov. 7 Ballot

The Florissant Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors approved support of three legislative issues in the upcoming November election. The three issues are: Amendment 3, Proposition A and Proposition 2.

Amendment 3 will create a Healthy Future Trust Fund used to reduce and prevent tobacco use, help increase funding for healthcare for eligible low-income individuals and Medicaid recipients and to cover administrative costs. This amendment will be funded by a 80-cent per pack increase on cigarettes and other increases to tobacco products.

Proposition A is an additional sales tax of one-quarter of one percent to provide funding for the City of Florissant’s parks and recreational facilities.

Proposition 2 is a no-tax-increase proposal to fund Phase II of the Hazelwood School District Long-Range Facilities Plan. Proposition 2 will allow the Hazelwood School District to make improvements to their school libraries and provide spaces for student services, the Early Childhood program and the GALACTIC elementary gifted program.
