BY RANDY GARDNER
It is hard to believe that I was watching the Cards fall to 0-2 at home Tuesday night in front of a couple of sellout crowds. Should we worry about this? Some would say yes. Are the boys a little to confident coming off of last year’s championship?
Has there been too much Bling for the first two pre-game activities?
No, the players and Fans deserve it.
I think they are just playing a really tough team in the Mets, a team that should be pennant contenders this year. Now, stop your hatred of that statement, I just mean that they have a good solid lineup, as we have seen over the last couple of nights.
Only in St. Louis can you have opening day with a temperature in the 70s and then play the next couple of games in football weather in the 30s and 40s. Maybe like they say about some football teams, the Cards could be a cold weather team (think last October)
GATORS—–
Congratulations to the Florida Gators as they won the NCAA Championship in Men’s Basketball for the second straight year. I think that everyone in the country thought they would win as they did, but I would have liked to see Ohio State win.
As you have probably noticed through the years that I root for the underdogs. That is what makes the tournament so special.
It’s always fun to watch the end of a championship game as you get to see the stories that unfold with the players and their families. It’s always great
to see the players enjoy the moment with their loved ones. It was great to see the Gators win their second title in a row. This is something that you don’t see in College sports very often—and with the same starting lineup as last season!
2-0 RIVER CITY RAGE HONE ON SATURDAY—–
The River City Rage won their home opener last weekend in a barn-burner in OT over the Lexington Horsemen. The Rage are now 2-0 on the season and have a bright season ahead of them this year. I really think they have a shot of
winning it all this year.
The team is at home again this Saturday (April 7) back at the Family Arena and then they will be on the road for a couple of weeks. They play all the way into the months of June and July, so there’s no excuse not to go.
It was back and forth all night long with Rage having a chance to win on the last play, but missing on a field goal attempt.
I am usually a pretty positive person but the field goal kicking was horrible all night long. Kickers are an integral part of any football team even though many fans hate that a kick can decide a close game.
Some of the players that I have talked to say that kickers are head cases and they stay away from them. If you look at the breakdown of how many points a kicker scores for a team and they are always up there amongst the tops on the team and in the league. Now, tell me that kickers aren’t important and I will tell you that you are crazy.
NHRA DRAG RACING COMING SOON
NHRA Drag Racing at Gateway is just around the corner. The event will be here the first weekend in May and boy is it a lot of fun for the entire family. This is a sport that allows you to get up close and personal with the drivers and you even get a chance to stand within 10 feet of the team as they work on the cars. Usually this event is in the dead heat of the summer. Nice cool weather this year will give us quick times.
After talking with Brandon Bernstein, one of the biggest drivers on the circuit, he is excited about racing here again in St. Louis as he considers this
his home track with Budweiser as his main sponsor. It will be neat to see him go head to head with his dad Kenny Bernstein as he will be driving for a competitor this year. This will be great.
