A 9-11 remembrance ceremony was hosted by the VFW Post 4105 located at 410 rue St. Francois on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. This event commemorated the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon by terrorists. Remarks were given by Randy Schrader, the Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of Liberty, Mayor Thomas Schneider and Police Chief Tim Lowery. He also reminisced of his time helping New York first responders at Ground Zero. “I unloaded supplies from across the country and helped guard the outer perimeter of the JFK building in Manhattan. I assisted ground zero and served meals. I remember the color in the air, and it was grey,” recalled a somber Lowery.

Also invited to speak were Fire Chief Scott Seppelt from the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District, Deputy Director Brendan Fahey from US Senator Claire McCaskill’s Office, and American Legion Post 444 Commander Bill Schnarr. Walt Kaiser, president of the Korean Veterans Association, North St. Louis County #4 chapter, announced Richard Rosenkoetter to be the 2018 Veteran of the Year. The District 12 VFW closed the ceremony.
