Winners of the City of Hazelwood’s 2018 Blue Ribbon Home Awards Program were introduced at a recent City Council meeting. They were asked to come forward to receive a beautiful plaque and a big blue ribbon In addition, a special reception was held in their honor in the City Hall atrium.

Sponsored by the Hazelwood Community Enrichment Commission, the Blue Ribbon Home Award Program was initiated in 1986 by the City Council as a way to honor those residents who maintain their property in an exceptional manner. The criteria used in selecting the winners are based on the property’s “curb appeal” or street view of the house from the front yard. It is conducted every two years.

The process involves commission members and local residents nominating homes to be judged from April until the end of May. All homes are viewed and considered for nomination. The final judging took place in June. Up to two homes in each ward are chosen as winners. Awards are presented in August. Past winners are eligible to win again after a 6-year period.
