Fifteen high school students from the Hazelwood School District made it to the top in scouting. For a girl it means Girl Scout Gold while for a boy that means earning Eagle Scout rank.

Karen Dick, Joy Nasalroad and Darneshia Williams of Hazelwood Central High School and Alison Berndt and Tiffany Jarvis of Hazelwood West High School earned Girl Scout Gold honors this spring.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest recognition for girls in Girl Scouting and the highest award that a Girl Scout who is 14 to 18 years old can earn.

It symbolizes outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning and personal development.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is an extension of all that the Girl Scout has learned in her previous Girl Scout experience. Girl Scouts who receive the Girl Scout Gold Award are eligible for a number of college scholarships.

The following boys joined the ranks of Eagle Scouts: Kevin Benedict and Shawn Bodden of Hazelwood Central High School and from Hazelwood West High School, Jared Dolle, Andrew Feldmann, Chris Heckman, Cameron Leitl, Cody Meinert, Andrew Potts, Michael Stoner and Zachary Thomas.

The Eagle Scout Award is a performance-based achievement. To earn the Boy Scout’s highest advancement rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in leadership, service and outdoor skills.

A number of specific skills are required to advance through the ranks and a Boy Scout must pass specific tests that are organized by requirements and merit badges.
