Two NCCS Students’ Works To Appear in ‘Grannie Annie’

Two North County Christian School (NCCS), 845 Dunn Rd., seventh-grade students have been selected to appear in Grannie Annie, Vol. 4 to be released in May.

Maya Denise Holmes was selected for “The Mystery of the Kindergarten Pants” and Gabrielle Nicole Lloyd for “Down by the Railroad.” Grannie Annie is an anthology of family stories written by young people. The students interview an older relative and write a story about an event from their family’s history.

All Grannie Annie authors will be honored at Left Bank Books on Saturday, June 6, at 2 p.m. The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration is sponsored by two local publishers of children’s books, Connie McIntyre of Thumbprint Press and Fran Hamilton of Portico Books.
Grannie Annie, Vol. 4 includes 26 stories written by authors in fifteen states. Submissions were received from across the country—from Hawaii to Maryland.

“When the students interview older relatives about their family’s history, the storytellers share their values and wisdom along with their stories,” McIntyre said. “Young listeners get a whiff of life before electronics and fast food, sometimes of life on another continent. Both participants are transformed by the process, as are future readers of the stories. The Grannie Annie is a win, win, win celebration.”
