Florissant Seeking Grant For Park Improvements at Manion Park

florissant Governemtn building   The Florissant City Council had a light agenda last week, with no communications, public hearings, or old business. They did, however, pass one resolution and four bills.

The council did pass a resolution supporting a grant application for park improvements to Manion Park. The resolution supports an application to the Municipal Park Grant Program in St. Louis County.

The grant is reimbursable upon completion by the project. The resolution lets the grant program know that the city government supports the request.

The council passed a bill that will waive fees for foster families who want to add a foster child to their occupancy permit.

Councilman Gerard Henke spoke about the bill. “This was something that was brought up by one of our constituents,” he said. “A family wanted to use a city facility and couldn’t because their foster child did not have a resident card and couldn’t get one because they weren’t on the occupancy permit.”

Henke noted that there is ample documentation regarding foster placement, and he would like the foster parents to be allowed to add the child with no cost if they can provide documentation.

“We want to be welcoming to these families,” he said. Councilman Jeff Caputa agreed with Henke. “As long as it’s an actual foster child,” Caputa said. “As long as they have sufficient documentation,”

After confirming that the city would waive the usual fee for foster families and they could update the occupancy permit with no charge, the council unanimously passed the bill.

The council also passed two bills that transfer funds from one city account to another. The first authorized the transfer of $36,000 from the Ice/Snow removal account to the Vehicle and Equipment Repair account and $9,000 from the Professional Services account to the Equipment Repair account.

In the second bill, the council authorized the transfer of $5,000 from the Election Expense account to the Cop Equipment/ Supply account.
