These camps, known as Mad Science, are offered to kids between the ages of 6 and 13. Students learn about cryptology, the physics of flying, the environment, and the solar system.
Through Community Empowerment’s efforts, 40 income-eligible children are attending Mad Science for free over two weeks. Signup is on a first-come, first-served basis, and spots are still available. Royal Banks of Missouri and Blueprint4Summer are funding the camps.
“This is the third year the Office of Community Empowerment had held these camps for our North County students and it’s been a huge success,” St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said. “Thanks to the efforts of Ethel Byndom, the head of Community Empowerment, we are able to bring the camp to the Castle Point neighborhood for the first time. Our kids have really enjoyed the Mad Science program and what they learn over the summer stimulates interest that carries over into the school year.”
There will be two one week sessions at the Castle Point Community Center at 2465 Baroness Dr. St. Louis, MO 63136 from July 17-21st and July 24-28th.
St. Louis County’s Department of Human services will provide breakfast and lunch for campers through its state funded summer food program.
