Spring Means Cardinal Baseball, Rams Training Camp and Final Four

BY RANDY GARDNER
What a week it has been as an early summer kind of just hit us right in the face with this nice weather. With nice weather means the baseball season and it is just around the corner. It is so nice of thinking about sitting around and catching a TV Cards’ game.

That is what summer is all about here in St. Louis. It is also really cool to drive by the local parks and see kids out playing soccer and baseball and families walking and jogging together. It makes you just happy to be alive.

It is also hard to believe that the Rams are starting their off season workouts. The season will be here before we know it. The only person who is missing from camp is Steven Jackson. Coach said that he was excused for family reasons.

It is really good to see the team making some changes and signing some decent players. I love the pickup of Fullback Mike Carney from the Saints, this is what Steven Jackson needs, a guy who will put his head down and open up a lane for him. It is so key to have that first block off the ball to give Jackson that extra step or two.

But it will be really weird not to see Orlando Pace lined up on the left tackle side too, this could be a dangerous year for our QB and his blind side. The only spot that I still worry about is that QB spot.

I know I harp on it a lot but this is a sore spot with me. For the fans, I am glad that the team will be holding its training camp back here in St. Louis. It was very unfortunate that the fans could not support and see the team during the training camp. I know the team needs to go away to get away from the distractions but I think the fans deserve to be part of the process.

The fans pay for the seats and have a vested interest in the team, it is their opportunity to see the team and players up close in a different setting than at the Dome from a mile away.

Tigers Could Go Far in Big Dance

All of these years we have hoped that the Missouri Tigers would do well in the big dance. Most of the time they didn’t even make it, but not this year, the team comes in ranked #3 in the region after winning the Big 12 Championship handily.

I never thought I would see the day that the team actually had a chance to do something great. Don’t laugh at me but I have made my final four decision and I am going out on a limb. I go with Arizona State, Wake Forest, Missouri, and Xavier. The Tigers will go to Boise where they were beaten back in 1995 in an upset. The players probably were only about age six at the time, so it won’t let this affect them.
