H’wood Central, Trinity Baseball Teams Are Top District Seeds

Hazelwood Central and Trinity Catholic Baseball teams are top seeds in district tournaments that begin this weekend and end in early June with the state championships, which return to Car Shield Field (formerly T.R. Hughes Ball Park) in O’Fallon, Mo.

Hazelwood Central plays at home in Class Five, District Six May 15 in a 4:15 against the winner of the Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. game between fourth-seeded McCluer and fifth-seeded Hazelwood East at Hazelwood West. Also getting a first round bye in Class Five, District Six is second-seeded Hazelwood West, which hosts a 4:15 game May 15 against the winner of Saturday’s 12:30 game between third-seeded McCluer North and sixth-seeded Riverview Gardens, also played at West. May 15 winners play at Hazelwood West May 17 at 4:15.

The District Six winner visits the District Five winner May 23 at 4 p.m. with that winner playing in the May 25 Quarterfinal at 4 p.m. If the District Six champion beats the District Five champion then the District Six champion hosts the May 25 Quarterfinal for a chance at going to Car Shield Field. The Class Five Semifinals in O’Fallon are June 2 while the Third-Place and State Championship Games are June 3

Trinity gets a first-round bye in the seven-team Class Three, District Five Tournament, which begins Friday, May 12. Fifth-seeded North Technical plays fourth-seeded Metro Friday, 4 p.m. at James “Cool Papa Bell” Stadium at Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club on Geraldine Avenue at Bircher Boulevard (Interstate 70) between Union Boulevard and Kingshighway. The North Tech-Metro winner plays Trinity May 15, 4 p.m. behind Christ, Light of the Nations (formerly Our Lady of Loretto) School

Lutheran North is the District host and the number two seed and will host seventh-seeded Sumner Friday at 4 p.m. while on the same day and same time third-seeded Cardinal Ritter plays fourth-seeded Northwest Academy of Law at Hazelwood Sports Complex, Aubuchon and Teson Roads. Lutheran North or Sumner plays Cardinal Ritter or Northwest Academy May 15, 4 p.m. at Lutheran North.

May 15 winners play at Lutheran North in the District Final May 16 at 4 p.m. for the right to host the District Six champion in the May 22 p.m. Sectional. The Quarterfinal at site to be determined will be May 24 at 4 p.m. Semifinals at Car Shield Field are May 31 while the Championship and Third-Place games, also at Car Shield Field are June. 1. Car Shield Field is located at Tom Ginnever Avenue at T.R. Hughes Boulevard.
