Warrants Issued for 2nd Degree Robbery of Elderly Woman

Warrants were issued by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on May 4th on Willie Spates for the charge of Robbery in the 2nd Degree. The charge is related to an incident that occurred in the morning hours of April 19 in the 1300 block. of Arlington.

The Florissant Police Department responded to the Arlington address where   a robbery had just occurred. The victim in this case was an elderly female and she was knocked to the ground during the incident.

The victim advised that a black-male, later

identified as Willie Spates of East St. Louis, IL. approached her in her driveway and asked for directions. As the victim was helping him with directions, the man struck her in the face with his fist, knocking the victim to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries from being struck by and falling to the ground. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s purse and drove away.

Approximately 20 minutes prior to this attack,

Florissant Police responded to a similar incident in the 2300 block of Johnstown drive in which a black-male approached an elderly woman in her driveway and demanded her purse.

An investigation revealed a witness observed the suspect vehicle and obtained a partial license plate. Florissant Police Detectives also located physical evidence at the scene of the crime.

The Florissant Police Department in conjunction

with the Granite City Illinois Police Department (who had similar incidents reported in their area) conducted a thorough investigation into this matter. The suspect in this case was identified and was apprehended by Investigators from the Florissant Police Department and the Granite City Police Department.
