Hazelwood Central Girls Track-Field Wins Lindenwood High School Open

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL — After finishing State in May, 2016, with a team high 76 points but was second to Lee’s Summit West in Class Five, Hazelwood Central Girls Track And Field began their mission to unfinished business March 25 by winning the Lindenwood High School Open at Lindenwood University Track in St. Charles.

Hazelwood Central scored 105 points, 35 better than runner up Fort Zumwalt South (70), 40 better than Wentzville-Timberland and 48 better than Incarnate Word Academy and Fort Zumwalt East (57 each). Defending Class Three Champion McCluer South-Berkeley finished seventh (38), Hazelwood West finished ninth (33) and Hazelwood East shared 13th (24) with Parkway North.

Hazelwood Central won two girls sprint relays, taking the 4×100 Meters in 48.74 seconds and the 4×200 Meters in 1:41.32. Late Afternoon thunderstorms cancelled the 4×400-Meter Relay event but that would not have kept the Hawks from winning at Lindenwood. Senior Shauniece O’Neal won the Discus throwing it in distance of 134 feet, 11 inches while Kassandra Sanders-Pitts, leaping over a High Jump Bar of 4’8”, shared first place with Incarnate Word Academy junior Tyler Flowers, Fort Zumwalt East’s Ashlynn Perkins and Parkway North’s Kylin Nichols.

Hazelwood Central athletes had to sprint “second-fiddle” to Fort Zumwalt South freshman Alicia Burnett, who won the 100-Meter Dash (11.71 seconds), 200-Meter Dash (24.29 seconds) and 400-Meter Dash (57.09 seconds). Junior Deja Ingram was second at 100 Meters (11.91 seconds) and 200 Meters (24.44 seconds) while at 400 Meters sophomore Danielle Frank finished second (59.34 seconds) and senior Destiney Nash finished third (1:00.22). Junior Aisha Southern was second in the 100-Meter Hurdles (16.05 seconds) to Poplar Bluff’s Alexis Hafford (15.67 seconds) while Senior Mekhi Mitchell was second in Long Jump (14’11”) to Fort Zumwalt East’s Syanne Johnston (15’1.5”).

incarnate word logo   INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY — Junior Brooke Fredrickson won the 1,600-Meter Run in 5:36.33 while finishing second in the 3,200-Meter Run (12:34.66) to Washington High’s Mikayla Reed (11:38.76). Flowers finished in a four-way tie for first place in the High Jump (4’8”). Senior Jade Gates finished second in the Shot Put (38’7”) to Timberland’s Makayla Hurst (41’), second in the Javelin (96’8”) to Parkway South’s Mary Burkhalter (100’5”) and third in Discus (112’1”) behind O’Neal and Crossroads College Prep’s McKinlee Morris (119’9”). IWA took second in the 4×800-Meter Relay (10:40.24) to Fort Zumwalt South (10:34.01).

   HAZELWOOD WEST finished third in four events including the 4×200 Relay (1:52.54) behind Hazelwood Central and Kirkwood (1:50.55) and behind Fort Zumwalt South and IWA in the 4×800 Relay (10.43.14). Nadia Pulliam finished third in the 800-Meter Run (2:34.33) behind Fort Zumwalt South’s Sofia Popp (2:28.52) and Timberland’s Kalleigh Linthicum (2:33.4). Finishing behind Johnston and Mitchell, Darriona Griffin shared third in the Long Jump (14’10”) with Timberland’s Kendall Fletcher and DeSoto’s Kayleigh Eberhardt.

   HAZELWOOD EAST finished second to Hazelwood Central in the 4×100 Relay (51.77 seconds).
