Read MoreBrief Winter Weekend Great For Watching NASCAR on TV
by Randy Gardner
This past weekend was a shock to the system. After a few weeks of really nice weather, the reality of St. Louis weather set in as we got back to regular February temperatures until earlyt this week. But to sit and watch the Great American race on TV which is otherwise known as Daytona was hard to do Sunday as the temperatures approached the 80s. For me being a Nascar fan I was in heaven, that was after I thawed out from a 9:30 a.m. coaching gig with my 13 year old team.
I know Nascar is a hit or miss topic with many, either you love it or you hate it but the ones who love it are really passionate like I am about the sport.
It is really cool to see Dale Jr back in the driver’s seat after missing most of last year with concussion like symptoms. I think the sport really needed him back right now. The fans love him. It will be interesting to see if the changes in the sport brings more viewers. It certainly brought more accidents over the weekend than in the past.
Great to See Cards in TV Spring Games
Now on to, I guess you could say more mainstream sports, lets look at baseball first. The Cardinals are already until exhibition games. It’s been neat to watch the Spring training games and see the players again. I am excited about the season but don’t know really what to expect.
How about Matt Adams, what a transformation. Who would have thought that yoga and pilates could change your body that much. I might give it a try but I think I would end up being hurt more often than not because my body cannot bend that way. Everyone says it is good for and it certainly has been good to Matt. I
It’s so early in Spring training to say much but all of us are happy that Alan Wainwright is healthy. He wants to pitch asking more for starts early. I will be interested in seeing how the veterans will mix with youngster. Really does it even matter. It’s Cardinals baseball, win or lose we will watch. In just a few weeks we will all be glued to the TV and radio trying to catch an inning or two of what we have come to know as our summer time tradition.
Blues Needs to Settle in for Playoffs
On to hockey, The Blues were on a tear then they hit the skids as lost three in a row. Should Blues fans be worried, I don’t think so. The trade deadline is gone and one veterans was traded for future prospects. But I know that all the fans want this team to win now and I think they can, but I think we all have to be patient. A new ew coach means giving him a bit of time. We saw what he could do early after he took this team over and a string of wins followed. Time will tell but I think we have a strong nucleus along with a new strong coach. For fans that means excitement and hopefully the sound of playoff hockey once again.
