District Tournaments: Wrestling at Haz. Central, Basketball at Haz. West

Missouri State High School Activities Association’s road to the state championships for Wrestling and Basketball begins Feb. 13 with Wrestling Districts, Feb. 21 for the largest two classes of Basketball and Feb. 28 for the smallest three classes of Basketball.

Both sports will end with the state championships in Columbia at Mizzou Arena, on the University
of Missouri campus.

Hazelwood Central will host Class Four, District Two Wrestling, Feb. 13-14 while Hazelwood West will host Class Five, District Six Basketball, boys and girls, during the period of Feb. 21-28.

Central, West, HAZELWOOD EAST, McCLUER NORTH, McCLUER and RIVERVIEW GARDENS will be in both of those district tournaments. Also competing at Central in Wrestling are Pattonville, Ritenour, CBC, DeSmet, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Francis Howell and Fort Zumwalt South.

The top four wrestlers in each of the 14 weight classes advance to the MSHSAA state championships, Feb. 19-21. The winners in Class Five, District Six Basketball will play March 4 at Northwest-Cedar Hill in the sectional round.

TRINITY CATHOLIC will be at Whitfield in Class One, District One Wrestling, Feb. 13-14 and in Class Three, District Five Basketball, during the period of Feb.28-March 7. Joining Trinity in Class Three, District Five Basketball are NORTH COUNTY TECH and LUTHERAN NORTH.

McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY will be in Mexico, Mo., Feb. 13-14 for Class Two, District Two Wrestling and at Mary Institute-Country Day School for Class Four, District Six Basketball. Those District Basketball winners will play in the Sectional Round, March 4 at Parkway West.

INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY, an all-girls school, will play in Class Five, District Four at Ritenour and the district champion will be at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Mark Twain Building, March 4, in the sectional round.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING — There are no district or sectional meets. Qualifying for the MSHSAA State Championships, Feb. 20-21 at the St. Peters’ Rec-Plex, is based on timing standards for swimming and points standards (210 minimum) for diving at each meet. Qualifying ends Feb. 14.

The final meet for Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North and McCluer is the Suburban North Conference meet, Feb. 10-12 in Bridgeton. The final meet for Trinity Catholic is the AAA meet, Feb. 13 at the Florissant-Eagan Civic Center. Incarnate Word Academy’s last meet is the MWAA meet Feb 12, 14 at MICDS and Feb. 13 at John Burroughs.
