It’s A Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre at Civic Center

The Florissant Fine Arts Council will present It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre on Saturday Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. This adaptation of the screenplay will be presented in at the Gary R. Gaydos Auditorium, in the Florissant Civic Center, Parker and Waterford Drive. Plenty of well-lighted parking.

This stage adaptation breathes new life into It’s a Wonderful Life by adding the drama of WVL Radio’s Actors trying to save the radio station. (see right photo) It’s Christmas Eve in 1945, and due to the blizzard, the professional voice actors are unable to get through, but the show must go on. A small but intrepid band of employees manage to create the dozens of movie characters and scenes using just their voices and a sound effects table.

This detailed production is an uplifting story of struggle and triumph, and of the power of a community to weather financial storms. The story of George Bailey and Bedford Falls is juxtaposed against a time of failing banks, devastatingly high employment, and a shortage of affordable housing. The story remains fresh and relevant. Its message of hope and optimism is the perfect antidote to holiday cynicism.

Tickets are $28 for adults and $26 for seniors and students; group rates are available. Call the box office at 314-921-5678 for tickets and information or go online at www.florissantfinearts.com.
