Lowery States City Is Financially Stable

Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery and Director of Finance Randy McDaniel say the city is in “very good financial condition” and has a balanced budget.

In a statement released this week, the mayor said revenue indicators for December 2008 and 2009 seem to be holding in most categories or even above last year. He did state that some categories showed losses compared to 2007, but overall the city is “in solid condition and will be for at least 2-3 years.”

Lowery attributed this to his staff and the city council that he says worked with him “to maintain the excellence of Florissant.”

In other matters, the mayor and Peter M. Hill, president of Billy Casper Golf, LLC, announced that there will be new management of the golf club starting Jan. 19. Two city employees, including the golf manager, were fired last year and have been charged with stealing over $500 or more in a Class C felony charge.

Billy Casper Golf is the largest municipal golf course management company in the U.S.

The mayor said the administration negotiated to retain the 20 percent discount for Florissant residents with a current Florissant ID card.

The current golf club employees have been interviewed. A decision will be made by the new management team on who is hired as manager and assistant manager.

Lowery said that some part-time positions would be filled by Florissant residents. The golf course is continuing to operate this winter and has never closed. For tee times, call 741-7444.

Lowery said that the public will notice improvement in service and is hopeful that everyone who uses the course will be satisfied with their performance.

Billy Casper will be here during the 2009 Valley of Flowers festival to present an exhibition and will offer autographs at the exhibition.
