Fans Watching the Rams

By Randy Gardner

I know you might not want to hear about it but I am going to write about it anyway. That was a big win for the LA Rams. Don’t say you didn’t watch it, I know many here did., more than the tv ratings showed.

I was at a birthday party for my son at a bounce house place and everyone was packed around the TV. Everyone says they don’t care but their actions show differently. They are like closet Rams fans, it’s alright though. It’s like a girlfriend that leaves you for another man.

Upfront, you hate her and tell everyone you hate her but inside you miss her and dream about her at night.

Onto the game though, it was an exciting defensive one. It looked like the same old Rams though as the Seahawks had a chance to win it at the end. This story might be completely different if they would have lost but they didn’t.

Again as in preseason, the old Coliseum was packed but not totally filled. Next home game for them it will even be more packed because they won. They have started to create that aura that we just didn’t have here anymore. Lose and it will fade away and then I will be writing about how they look the same as they did here. Eventually they have to score a touchdown.

Cards Need to Get Over Hump For Wild Card

The Cardinals are so up and down it’s driving me and everyone I know crazy. There have been so many opportunities to close that Wildcard gap but they just can’t seem to get over the hump. I honestly am not sure they are going to pull it off. I usually don’t say that because I am always hopeful in what they can do.

What will it be like not to have postseason baseball here in St. Louis, even if it’s only one game. Will it be a failure for this team if they don’t make the post season. Give them a break.

Think about it in terms of yourself, sometimes you just don’t make the grade for no fault of your own, someone was just better. You can’t always win everything. Even though that should be the mentality, it never really happens. I guess we will have to turn to the Blues a bit earlier this season. They will love that.

Usually the Blues preseason and the first month of the season are almost forgotten by the average fan here in St. Louis because the Cardinals are overshadowing everything. The Blues actually look good going into the pre-season. They have a defense that we haven’t seen in many years and goaltending should be top notch.

The team is very balanced with young talent and older grit. This makes for an interesting chemistry. Most of the time it works out well. The Blues have always been an organization that has been able to develop players and bring them up through the system and they thrive. We will see, it is just around the corner.

Just popping into my mind, I read an article about the decline of Yadier Molina’s defense prowess to this Cardinals team. I am not sure how to digest this. A age 34 Molina in my book is as good as any catcher in the major leagues. This is what happens here in St. Louis. As soon as someone loses one step in speed or misses a few balls, they are falling apart.

Come on, give them a break. Age will have an effect on everyone but who is better behind the plate than Yadi. He’s not bad with a bat either. Let’s let him play the year out and see where we stand. I will take Yadi for years to come and I think the majority of fans would agree.
