Without the Rams, Try A High School Game

By Randy Gardner

You never want to wish nothing but the best for most but there are some that you say, what comes around goes around and this is where the Rams sit in my book. That statement leans towards Stan Kroenke. What I have been hearing from almost everybody is that this is the same old Rams franchise just in a different city.

Remember what I always say, winning cures everything. If they put a winning streak together or a winning season, remember those 90,000 fans for their first pre-season game.

There will be a weekly built in fan base. Add those numbers up compared to what the team was getting here in St. Louis. It will reflect the Rams play as always.

It’s really weird not having a team to call your hometown team. I haven’t even watched a full pre season game yet this year. Nothing seems to really interest me. I am keeping an eye though on high school football. If you want to see football at its purest form, high school football is where it is. The passion that surrounds the games is unbelievable. Go out on a Friday night or Saturday to your local high school and catch a game. Take the kids, it’s a great time and it’s at a minimal charge. The season has just begun for most schools and will go into late October and November. There is nothing like a cool fall night and watching high school football.

I cannot get a grasp on the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team right now. They have the opportunity to make up ground or the lead in the Wild Card run and then just let some games slip away. One day they can’t score any runs and then the next day they score 8. There seems to be no balance. I don’t know if it is a motivational thing for the team or not.

We, as fans just expect this team in be in the playoffs but it is not a given. This year is scaring me. It is a tough league and with their record the Cards may not get in. Losing the Rams and not making the playoffs in the same year. That would be even tougher to take. What will everyone say then? Remember, St. Louis is a bandwagon sports city. Play great and everybody loves you. Play bad or lose and they hate you.

Of course, The Cardinals usually get a bit of leeway because of their track record, but not always. It is always someone’s fault specifically if the team doesn’t do well. Remember, you can’t win all the time. Even though you should have that mindset, it rarely happens.

This is the perfect time of the year to try and start getting into shape. The weather is turning cooler which makes it easier to walk, run or bike. The holidays are not far off so you can set a goal and go for it. It’s a deadline that has a hard finish line. You want to look good for friends and family during the holidays.

I always say this but just a few minutes a day can make a big difference. Start small and then make it a habit. You will not believe how good you feel after a few weeks of doing it on a regular basis. Make it your goal, make it your families goal. Go for a walk, then turn it into a run or bike ride. Great family memories and getting in shape at the same time.

This is your year. Just do it. Start now.
