Mayors’ Shamrock Ball Benefits Valley Industries

The 9th Annual Mayors’ Shamrock Ball is March 5

Last year’s Mayors’ Shamrock Ball sold out, but the organizers for the 2016 event expect the upcoming evening to be the best one yet. The 9th annual Mayors’ Shamrock Ball is slated for Saturday, March 5, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Garden Villas North, 4505 Parker Road.

Five local municipalities—Black Jack, Florissant, Hazelwood, Ferguson, and Bellefontaine Neighbors—host the ball, which raises funds for Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides dignified, meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities. Last year’s ball broke a record by netting more than $39,000—exceeding the 2014 total by over $4,000. The event attracted over 84 different event sponsors and donors.

“Over the past nine years, our Mayors’ Shamrock Ball has evolved into one of North County’s biggest charitable social soireés of the year. Tickets are now a precious commodity because it’s become a place to be and be seen networking with influential business leaders and elected officials from our region. Guests come dressed up in their evening gowns and green-tie formalwear, ready to dance the night away, eat delicious food and win fabulous raffle prizes for a worthy cause,” Chief Carl Wolf (ret.), Shamrock Ball Event Chairperson said.

Hosts are Mayor Norman C. McCourt of Black Jack, Mayor Thomas P. Schneider of Florissant, Mayor Matthew G. Robinson of Hazelwood, Mayor James W. Knowles III of Ferguson, and Mayor Robert J. Doerr of Bellefontaine Neighbors.

Signature Food Dishes and Great Music

For the sixth consecutive year, the ball will be held at Garden Villas North Retirement and Assisted Living Community. In addition to festive decorations, beautifully carved ice sculptures and mood lighting, food stations manned by several popular restaurants and catering services will be scattered throughout the facility, including the second floor balcony. They will serve their signature food dishes, hors d’oeuvres, pastries and desserts for most of the evening.

Participating food vendors include: Callier Catering (serving Shepherd’s Pie); Catering to You (serving 5-Cheese Pasta with Corned Beef); Helfer’s Pastries & Deli (serving Chicken Pot Pie & Shamrock Ball cake); Krause Katering & Kakes (serving Tangy Meatballs & Cherry Tarts); Mattingly’s Bar & Grill (serving Corned Beef & Potatoes); Starbuck’s; Papa Murphy’s Pizza (serving Pizza); Pasta House (serving Salad); and Longhorn Steakhouse (serving Steak Kabobs over rice). Glazer’s Wine & Spirits will sponsor open bars on the first and second floor. Delmar Gardens and Garden Villas North will stock and staff a martini bar on the third floor.

For the ninth consecutive year, the popular Bob Kuban Band will keep the place hopping with lively music. Since blazing his way to the top of the charts with his hit song “The Cheater” in 1966, Kuban has been entertaining thousands of audiences with high-energy music that appeals to people of all ages.

Raffles and Prizes

In addition to the great food, raffles and attendance prize drawings will be held. Prize packages include tickets for St. Louis Cardinals games, including dinner at the Stadium Club or limousine service provided by JED Limousine; tickets to a St. Louis Blues game with visit to the broadcast booth; a golf outing for four players at the Florissant Golf Club (includes 18-holes of golf and golf carts valued at $156); a weekend family trip to Lost Valley Lake Resort; theater tickets and passes to popular St. Louis attractions, and gift certificates to popular restaurants. Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25.

Upon arrival, guests receive a card that is punched at each food station and turned in for a chance to win an HD flat-screen TV. Raffle tickets will be available to win a Treasure Chest of Happiness ($500 worth of alcoholic beverages). Blinking green bracelets can be purchased for $10 for a chance to win an elegant emerald jewelry piece donated by Henefer’s Jewelers of Florissant. In addition, attendance prize baskets, prepared and donated by Karen McKay, a former Florissant Council member as well as designer and aesthetician, will be given away at random.

Crowning of the King and Queen

Each year, Valley Industries selects a male and female Worker of the Year from a pool of employee candidates who were monthly winners. This year’s honorees are John Reed and Janet Collins. They will be crowned King and Queen of the ball and will cut the official cake.
