Hazelwood Presents Annual Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

For the past 14 years, the City of Hazelwood’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Tribute has ended with a special memorial candle lighting ceremony honoring his legacy as a civil rights leader.  Audience members pass the flame of hope to each other until the whole room lights up with hundreds of lit candles.

The City of Hazelwood’s Community Enrichment Commission will host its 14th annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center East, 8969 Dunn Road. The public is invited to this free event, which features KMOV-TV ”News for This Morning” anchor Andre Hepkins as the keynote speaker. Other guest speakers include the Reverend Adrienne Denson and Hazelwood Mayor Matthew Robinson.

The McGeeBay Sisters, Felicia Ezell, and the Jury Elementary School choir will perform the music for the event. As a reminder that Dr. King’s dream belongs to everyone, a special candle lighting ceremony will conclude the program honoring his legacy. Refreshments will be served.
