First ‘Hybrid’ Procedure Performed at Christian Hospital New Hybrid Room

The first cardiac hybrid procedure at Christian Hospital was performed Thursday, July 30, in the new $5.5 million hybrid room, the only one of its kind in North County and among only 2 percent in hospitals nationwide.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 10 to officially recognize the opening of the hybrid room.

The hybrid room is equipped with advanced medical imaging technology and combines the procedures of a cardiac catheter lab, such as placement and correction of pacemakers, with the features and capabilities of a surgery room when more complex surgical treatment is required.

“The hybrid room allows Christian Hospital to provide high-tech, cutting-edge procedures,” Nabil Munfakh, MD, medical director of cardiothoracic surgery at Christian Hospital. “All is headed toward minimally invasive application and the hybrid room is at the forefront of cardiology.”

The hybrid room was made possible through the fundraising efforts of the Christian Hospital Foundation through donations to the foundation from hospital employees, physicians, the Christian Hospital Auxiliary and the community.
