North County CARES Hosts Community Summit Oct. 23

North County CARES (NCC) will host the 2008 Community Summit IX from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, and from 8 a.m.-noon on Friday, Oct. 23, at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley in the Student Center Multipurpose Room.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Making Personal Development a Priority to Change”. The summit seeks to promote individual and community growth through education and training opportunities.

“This is the ninth annual North County CARES Community Summit. In the past, we have focused more on education for social service providers so that they can better serve their clients,” said Marsha Bonds, director of North County CARES.

The summit will take place over two days. The first day will consist of several workshops. Participants can select 2 workshops on various topics like stress management, fundraising strategies for non-profits, retirement planning, workplace technology, will writing and basic Microsoft Word(r) skills.

On day two of the summit, Marcia Pfeiffer, president of STLCC-Florissant Valley and Benava Brooks, vice president of programs, MERS-Goodwill will address the group. A keynote address will be given by Oval Miller of BASIC on how to maintain positive relationships. The winner of the Outstanding Community Leadership Award as selected by the NCC Advisory Board will announced. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served on both days.

The summit is free, but pre-registration is required. Continuin Education credits will be available for summit attendees.
