Independence Day begins with a 10 a.m. parade from Paul Avenue and S. Florissant Road through Ferguson and ends with fireworks at January-Wabash Memorial Park, 501 N. Florissant Road. In-between there will be food, games, and a multitude of special events for the whole family. The theme for the 41st annual Ferguson celebration is Childhood Heroes.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for noon at January-Wabash Park. Activities in the park include food, beverage and game booths that will be open from noon on. A special area for children is also planned.
In the bandshell area, Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers (vintage jazz/swing) will play from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by Street Beat (blues/rock) from 5 to 9 p.m.
Activities for the children run from noon throughout the evening. A free petting zoo will be open from noon until 7 p.m., enchanted events characters will roam the grounds from 1 until 6 p.m., and the Lego Experience will be available from 1 until 7 p.m. Other highlights include Show Me Safari Racing Pigs, face painting, magic, juggling, a Hula Hoop play shop, balloon art, Nitro Joe and a fire-eating performer.
The fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. at the park. No dogs or other pets, bicycles, skateboards, barbecue setups, tents, or outside fireworks will be allowed. Guests are asked not to move the picnic tables.
